How to write product titles AI shoppers find

Of everything in your catalog, the product title does the most work in AI search. Get it right and an agent connects your product to the shopper’s request; get it wrong and a great product stays invisible.

1. Lead with what it is, in plain words

A shopper asks for a “base layer,” not a “Thermal Crew — Charcoal.” Put the plain-language category first, then the brand, colour and detail. Agents match on the words shoppers use — so use them.

2. Include the modifiers shoppers add

“Merino,” “waterproof,” “for kids,” “stainless steel.” These qualifiers are exactly how shoppers narrow a request to an agent. If they’re true of your product and absent from the title, you lose those queries. The category benchmarks show the winning terms for each vertical.

3. Don’t bury it in SKU noise

Codes, sizes and internal jargon dilute the match. Keep titles human-readable. A title written for a person searching out loud is a title written for an agent.

4. Encode intent, not just keywords

The frontier of AEO is abstract requests — “sustainable,” “a gift for a new dad.” Where it’s genuinely true, say it. Products that encode intent win queries their competitors can’t even see. See which queries your store misses →
