AEO — Answer Engine Optimization — is SEO for the AI agents (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) that now shop on customers’ behalf. AEO Index measures it: we track what those agents surface across every retail category, and score who shows up for what.
A living, cross-merchant view
We refresh continuously and bank a snapshot every day — an append-only record of who wins each category. The history compounds and can’t be reconstructed after the fact.
Why it’s defensible
Brands can’t build it — every store sees only itself. The cross-merchant view (who beats you, your category percentile) needs a vantage point no single brand has.
Platforms won’t build it — pitting their own merchants against each other is off-thesis for a marketplace. An independent index isn’t conflicted.
It compounds — the longitudinal snapshot, the validated ranking model, and the convergence vocabulary (the exact language winning products use) are things you accumulate, not scrape in a day.
What we measure — and don’t
We measure visibility (does your catalog answer a query) and convergence (the title language category winners share). We do not estimate demand dollars from the corpus — honest demand sizing needs a store’s own search data. The measurement is consistent across categories and refreshed continuously.
