How AI shopping agents use price

When an agent narrows a few candidate products to the ones it shows, price is one of the levers it pulls. Understanding how lets you position deliberately instead of guessing.

Agents read price as a signal, not just a fact

A shopper says “under $120,” or “affordable,” or “premium.” The agent uses your price to decide whether you fit the request. Sit far outside the band the shopper implied and you’re filtered out before relevance even matters.

Know your category’s band

Every category has a typical range AI shoppers see. Land inside it and you’re a default candidate; sit far above without a premium story, or far below in a way that reads as low-quality, and you lose visibility. The category benchmarks show the typical band for each vertical.

Position on purpose

Premium is a valid strategy — but make the value legible in your product data so the agent (and the shopper) understands why. Cheap-by-accident is the one to avoid. See where your store sits →
